I've seen homerooms referred to as things like "2-2" or "1-3" and whatnot on a lot of shows, graphic novels, and websites about Japanese schools, and I'm wondering how exactly these are chosen. Does one of the numbers correspond to the school year a student is in...?
How does the Japanese homeroom naming system work?
"2-2" means 2nd grade(year), class number 2. "1-3" means 1st grade(year), class number 3. Number is not related to students' performance. It is used in elementary/junior high/high schools. One class has 10 to 40 students, average is about 30.
