There are two mixed breed collies at a nearby animal shelter and I hope to adopt one. Does anybody have an idea for a name? Thanks.
Does anyone have a suggestion for naming a young female collie?
I just answered on like this... go with the personality of the dog, or the area the dogs came from.... try something to remember her by... nothing cutsie or just quick... I like memorable names... like Hope, Beauty, Life ... or the person who saved her, name her after that.
Reply:When you choose a name for a dog it must be a name that does not sound too much like any of the commands you want to teach the dog. Make a list of all the commands and of different names and compare. Also a two syllable name is better. Say each name, call it out as if you call the dog. If it sounds good and is easy to call, that is ideal. Also consider the meaning of a name.
My own Border Collie's name is Maggie.
Reply:Collie-like names I think are -
Breeze
Fly
Storm
Jed
Whisper
Ace
Astrid
Ripley
I only say those because they remind me of "sheep dogs" throughout the years!! Upto you whether you think they are female names or not. But I agree with the above poster - a name is a very personal choice and one you will use a million times or more. You should wait till you have the dog and see what suits you and her.
Reply:If they are both female :
Angel, Bonnie, Crystal, Dixie, Echo, Freedom, Hope, Izzi, Jewel, Kira, Lassie, Misty, Nikki, Princess, Queenie, Reba, Skye, Taylor, Uno, Vixen, Xena, Yella, Zoe
My favs of the above names are Dixie, Freedom and Hope.
Reply:Once again, why do people ask total strangers for name suggestions. Names are a very personal decision, something you have to live with for the life of your dog.
Reply:i'm so tired of people asking for dog names.
jeez. get the dog, see what it's personality is, and name it.
