Why are so many writers on here so focused on naming there stories before they write them?

Why are so many writers on here so focused on naming there stories before they write them? I've read a lot of questions on here about people having lots for books, and instead of focusing on writing them, they are asking for titles.

Probably because they are avoiding writing as long as they can. Some people can come up with ideas, but can't write them(which causes them to try to do something else involving the story they want to write)
Reply:The temporary titles are called working titles; they help authors focus on what the story is going to narrate. After the story is finished, they might change it by finding an appropriate phrase from the story. At least, that's the standard protocol for most writers. I think that the people who ask for titles are unsure of what they're going to write, and can't think of a catchy title by themselves, which is why they're asking other poeple to do their thinking for them.
Reply:Probably a mixture of reasons -- procrastination, thinking about what to name the book means you have longer until you actually have to sit down to the hard slog of writing it.

Sometimes perhaps writers are uncomfortable about starting something nameless -- calling your work "untitled", "novel", "this dumb thing that I'm trying to write" isn't very inspiring and motivating... sometimes having a title helps make the work feel "real" and maybe also more professional.

Some writers will spend a lot of time imagining the finished work being published before they start writing -- they're ofter living under the illusion that the first draft will be amazingly perfect, their story will be a hit and a instant bestseller or critically acclaimed. Coming up with a title is just one piece in the illusion.

Certainly not all writers think like that -- but in my experience that is how many of the ones you're referring to do.
Reply:idk! I would go with writing the story fist, then the title! I think most people do that because they just want to say "ha! i have a story!!!" when they only have a title. :)
Reply:Probably because it gives them something to think about while writing, like the theme, I know that the title I came up with a long time ago has given me tons of ideas
Reply:Because they are procrastinating haha :]
