I was told that I couldn't use the word investments in my business name.

You can call a business US Federal blah blah blah.





You need a disclaimer on everything that your not affiliated with the USG.





All you have to do is register the name with the state you are incorporated in (assuming it is not taken - do a name search - small state fee. See Dept of Corporations or what ever it is called in your state. If you are international, see your regulator).





If you are not a corporation business, then a DBA would be the way to go. I would not advise having a sole proprietorship or joint partnership investment business - waaay too much liability risk (see a corporate attorney).





Note: One can not use a registered trademark for a business name.

Starbux Investments - would prob bring a lawsuit by Starbux.


Big Mac Capital - would prob bring a lawsuit by McDonald's.

Now, if you are intending to solicit investors, advise people on investments, then you have an entirely different set of questions and regulations to deal with. I've posted them already.
