With Niedemeyer and Selanne out of the line-up they have lost what class they had and it shows. The team will take on the character of the captain and goon hockey isn't going to work in the new NHL. This isn't 1975 anymore.
Your thoughts?
Are the Ducks getting what they deserve naming a selfish player like Pronger as captain?
The Ducks don't have much of a choice on who to name as C. Several players wouldn't want it. JS is a goalie so he's not eligible. Getz is too young imo. Perry ...no way. Kuni is not ready for it. Sean O' only signed a 1 yr contract so don't name him C, but he'd be good!! Does Rob Nieds want it? idk maybe not b/c then he'd aways be compared to Scott. Did you know Sean was C when he was w/Minn?
I don't know if he'd want it or not but I think Sammy Pahlsson is excellant. He's a work horse.
You absolutely CAN'T give it to Big Bert, that'd be asking for a war. lol
Marchant would be good but he's injury prone. *crosses fingers for this season*
Just to be funny they could give it to George Parros..
Or, give it to Dipenta since he was the only one who showed up on time to the 1st day of training camp. LOL
So, who would you name as C for the Ducks other than Pronger who is a vet and has been C before?
Reply:chris pronger is a dirty, lousy bastard of a hockey player that can't skate worth a damn. the ducks can rot in hell for all I care because this is the wing's year baby!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:I agree. Pronger captain?? NO! Good--in a cheap kind of way. Name some young and upcoming star who signed with the team long term, or will sign long term.
I'd name Giguere captain over Pronger lol.
Reply:Pronger was Captain of the Blues for 5 years, they were never a goon club at that time, made the playoffs every year he was captain, won a presidents Cup while he was captain, averaged over 100 pts a year while he was captain.
He then spent the next 4 seasons as an A captain (2 in St. Louis and 1 in Edmonton and 1 in Anaheim). During those 4 years his teams had 95 points or more, and made it to a Stanley Cup Final twice.
He has been no lower than 6th in Norris Trophy voting since 1993-94 (winning in 2000). 4 Time post-season All-Star. twice he's led the league in plus/minus. And one Hart Trophy.
Pronger plays the game tough, and with that incidents will happen.
Burke made the choice, made it permanent, and there really was no other option.
Reply:Fine line between goon hockey and aggressive hockey sometimes.
You seem a trifle biased against Pronger. Is there a problem?
Reply:i wouldn't call pronger selfish, i think he passes the puck more often than most.
Reply:Im not big fan of Prongers, but he was a big part of the Ducks winning the cup last year and an even bigger part of the Oilers making it to the Finals the year before. Hes a seasoned veteran who has been among the elite of the game for a long time. He brings grit and determination and is the most talented guy that is currently on the their roster. He was the obivious choice to wear the "C".
