What is your opinion on naming a girl Evangeline?

I love that name, but what do others think about it? If you met someone named Evangeline, would you think the name is too weird?

I love the name Evangeline!





It's actually got quite an extensive history behind it. It's literary -- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote an epic poem called "Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie" in 1847. It's very antique sounding and it has the long, flowing sounds of Isabella (and other very current frilly names) but none of the popularity. It fits in nicely with similar Eva and Ava, which are topping the charts right now and has the same syllable structure and flow as perennial favorite Elizabeth, but is distinctive enough to be set apart from all three. I would love to meet an Evangeline -- I don't think it's weird at all. It can always shorten, as well, so I wouldn't say it's any kind of problem.

Reply:I love the name! My little cousin has the middle name Evangeline, and I think it's beautiful and fits her perfectly. The other good thing about the name is that it has so many nicknames! Ellie, Ella, Evie, Jill...
Reply:I think it's okay. It's not a name I would choose though, only because I don't like the nicknames a girl would probably aquire with that name. She would probably be called, Angel.

Reply:I first think of "evangalistic" - as in the religion, but it's very femine and .. dramatic.
Reply:I'm so-so about it..I mean its pretty just not my favourite. Definitely not weird though! Plus, Eve or Evie is a cute nickname.
