Ive noticed that a young lad called Eoghan found fame on a singing competition in UK, has this popularised the name or is it still odd and hobbitish to you?
How many of you are planning on naming your babies Eoghan?
I never really thought about the name much before, so now I just associate it with your picture, which I like ;D
I have Owen on my name list, I think I'd be more likely to use that since I'm from England and people won't know how to spell or pronounce it otherwise. I only just worked out how to pronounce it a while ago! I love Irish names though.
I don't know any babies named Eoghan, but slightly hobbitish names are coming back into fashion so it may happen yet!
^^ I agree with the person above me too ;)
Reply:Yes, your name is hobbitish, but that's not a bad thing. I think it's a handsome name that is old fashioned sounding and ornate, but in a good way, not a bad way. Lately I have been noticing little boys having names like Silas, Duncan, Gideon and other antiquarian hobbitish names like that so perhaps Eoghan will be a trendy boy's name soon. :)
Reply:I'm Irish, so this name and spelling is totally run of the mill to me. I would possibly name my son that name, because i love Gaelige names. Not because of the X factor.
EDIT: it is not pronounced Yo-an, it's pronoiunced Oh-Wen. Just like Owen. Anyone who has any knowlege of Irish/Gaelige (not gaelic!!) will know how to spell and say this name no problemo.
Reply:Well, i'm Irish so the name Eoghan/Eoin is actually pretty common. I'm not a fan of Eoghan Quigg though, he was annoying. =P
It's a nice name, I prefer the spelling 'Eoin' but it's not one of my favourites and I liked it before Eoghan Quigg came on the scene!
Reply:I think the name is cute but my sons are Colton and Carson so i'm sticking with the C theme. I think it would be nice as a middle name also...
Cody Eoghan
Camden Eoghan
What is your middle name? I think Eoghan Rhys or Eoghan John is quite nice.
Reply:Lol..in fact, I was thinking of changing my daughter's name to Eoghan to honor my favorite anti-fem, not the kid on the singing competition. Alas, she vetoed it. She said it was hobbitish. Sorry :)
Reply:I'm American, but it's the Irish for Owen. There are many males name Eoghan/Eoin/Owen and I don't think it's fair to categories parents within a certain time period from naming their sons Eoghan/Owen/Eoin
Reply:it is still odd and hobbitish to me... i mean, when i read that, it reminded me of lord of the rings
but then again, it IS my opinion
Reply:nope, not pregnant but if i had a little boy i would name him either
jenzel demario or Isisah Paxton if i had a girl i would name her Yasmin Skye or Violet Marley =D but seeign as we have 6 kiddies we aren't planning any more
Reply:ya it still is a pretty odd name this is the first time i have ever heard it but then again my nickname is vito so i bet people think that is odd also
Reply:I wouldnt say it was odd or hobbitish but I had never actually heard of Eoghan until the X factor so maybe it will gain popularity. I think you should like it that way cause it makes you individual :)
Reply:I'm not down for breeding, but I just got a new betta and he needs a name, so I'll consider it.
Of course an evil womens, I have to ask...what's in it for *me*? =o)
Reply:Is that pronounced like the character from Ghostbusters? I don't care for the name at all, and it definitely isn't popular in America.
Reply:Why not? I wouldn't do it to follow trends I like it though I would probably make a name up that no-one had ever heard of if by some miracle I had a child.
Reply:Def odd but it is your son, if you like the name go for it personally i wouldn't slow down think about it your kid has to live with that name forever
Reply:Cannot say I particularly like the spelling but it isn't really an odd name.
Reply:well,it still sounds weird and im in the UK and ive never heard that name before.
I would call my kids crystal or Adam.depending on gender
Reply:No...."the Enforcer"
Reply:Hehe you're funny :) I bet you're Irish too - very hot ;-) I love your name...but I havent any plans to have babies yet, I'm only 23!
Reply:It's not at all odd - it's a Gaelic name! It's only odd if you approach it from a different language's perspective.
Reply:Ghostbusters! Remember Eoghan? Still an odd name.
Reply:I love the name, and yes have thought about it, but for that very reason decided on Ewan instead.
Reply:@Eoghan - Is it the Irish for Ian or John? And is it pronounced Yo-han? Just guessing.
Reply:That would just be too wierd, the babies name would be Eoghan Owen lol
Reply:Weird but pretty in a very odd way.
Reply:idk what hobbish means or idk how to pronounce eoghan sooo no that is a ugly name
Reply:I hate that name and i hated him.....really did not deserve to get in the final. And I think JLS should of 1 not the other girl shes shite
Reply:not mehh

Reply:No offence but that is a terrible name
Reply:no one is planning to name their offspring Eoghan.
