What is your opinion on naming a boy Julian?

It might be cute for a baby, but does it sound too feminine for an adult man?

What do you think?

What is your opinion on naming a boy Julian?
I find it a distinguished masculine choice, to be honest. The few I've ever known to find it feminine were simply unfamiliar with the name -- or its female variants -- and were unfortunately mispronouncing it. Julian (JOO-lee-an) is NOT Julianne (joo-lee-ANN). The two are pronounced and stressed differently. By that logic, those same people would likely find Charles, Michael or George "feminine," since those have only slightly-different feminine forms as well.

And really, with all the little girls named Riley, Aidan, Aubrey, Madison, etc. running around at the moment, I seriously doubt most will find a classically masculine name that ISN'T already regularly used for females any less masculine. ;)

Of course, if it's a concern, you might simply opt for the clearly-male Jude over unisex nickname Jules, thereby giving him a "boyish/manly" option should he one day find it to be an issue.

Hope that helps.

Reply:i think it is a nice name just make sure you follow it by a more masculine middle name
Reply:I dont like it. Its too feminine for a boy I think. I always think of Julianne or Julia or any of the many other girls names that start with Juli.
Reply:I have heard of it being used on both sexes and with girls being named Ryan these days I wouldn't worry one bit! I like it for a man... it sounds very powerful like a king or CEO.
Reply:Not my fav. ....How about Gianni ?
Reply:it's a nice name, but could be a problem depending on where you live (julian is a classic 'gay' name where i live, because of the famous gay comedian julian clary.) in fact, the fairy we put on top of our xmas tree is called julian.
Reply:I frankly agree, but Julian Lennon seems to wear the name well.
Reply:No, not too feminine at all and I LOVE it!
