I am thinking of naming my newborn Gertrude, what do you think?

I think it's so uncommon and interesting.

Much prettier than some names out there such as Mary and Emily.

I am thinking of naming my newborn Gertrude, what do you think?
it's fine. Trudy is often used as a nickname for Gertrude
Reply:well.. no offense, but it sounds like something that Thomas Jefferson might have named his daughter. It's kind of oldish. It is very uncommon and interesting though =)

I bet you could think of a pretty name that's uncommon and newish at the same time. Like Ariah, or Josie, or Saleene. Look at other baby name questions in yahoo answers, there are some really good names =)
Reply:Geodude%26gt;Gertrude. It's more uncommon.

Your child will hate you if you name them Gertrude. I see where you're coming from with the uncommon names, just don't use that one. Use one wiht exotic letters like Q's, and X's. QiQi, or Alexia or something, much nicer sounding.
Reply:It is uncommon and interesting, yes. It's also what we used to call our red car we had when we were little! Lol.

I imagine she'll be the only Gertrude in her school. If it suits your family etc, go for it.
Reply:Uncommon yes, interesting? not so sure. I would think long and hard about giving your child a name like this as they might get a lot of teasing later in life. Also you have to think about what sort of nicknames they might get
Reply:i can't say it's bad I've definitly heard of it b4 but i think you should add onto it like Gertrude mixed with another name or it has Gertrude in it or sounds like it maybe?
Reply:People all over the WORLD joke on Gertrude. I agree Mary and Emily are getting very old, but don't try to spice your baby's life up with a name like Gertrude.

I agree... you should think a little more on that one.
Reply:I actually know a few people with this name but they all go by Trudy. I think it is a very old name. If you like it and it suits her then that's up to you.
Reply:Sure, why not? People like awful names like Matilda and Isabelle/a, so why not Gertrude? You can call her Gert or Trudy.
Reply:HAYNOW! lol my daughter is Emily and its common, but beautiful. Gertrude is an older name.. its up to you.. but she will get picked on.
Reply:I strongly discourage you from using the name Gertrude, I think she will teased terribly in school.
Reply:LMAO I feel sry 4 it already!
Reply:don't do it
Reply:means spear

Reply:It's a good name. Trudy is a nice nickname, True works too.
Reply:i feel sorry for that kid that name makes me think of the fat boy on wili wonka
Reply:it will be bullied in school the poor child.may i suggest peace or adele
Reply:That's a cow's name! Imagine being called Gertie? It will become Dirty Gertie
Reply:I don't like it for a girl because that's my cat's name. I call her Gerty for short.
Reply:I really do not like that name, but if its what you like go for it
Reply:Well theres worse i guess
Reply:Yes.. I think that name is very nice..
Reply:name them sheen...like off of jimmy neuton.
Reply:Gertrude hey? nar... to old fashioned. I think they would get teased. but that's my opinion.
