Naming a police officer on yahoo answers is it some kind of offence?

If I told a true story on here about the Police being incompetent in general and mentioned a police officers name about an ongoing and very trivial minor case.

Would that be some kind of offence if so what offence would it be, what's the punishment and what would they most likely do about it?

Naming a police officer on yahoo answers is it some kind of offence?
Try it and see.
Reply:Well, I am a police officer in Texas. First of all, I don't really know that posting a complaint on Yahoo answers is of any great concern for the officer that is affected. My only advice is whatever you say should be factual, as you know it atleast. Secondly, if you have a genuine complaint, simply go to the department where he works and ask to talk to Internal Affairs. They will take your complaint and do an investigation. I don't think that your problem will be solved on here. And as a police officer, we get accused of all kinds of crazy stuff, so I doubt he/she will pay much attention to it, unless of course you are accusing him/her of some criminal act.
Reply:One if you talk about an ongoing case that is a charge minor or major doesn't matter. In order to do it under freedom of information act you must file a request and have it approved.

Two if you talk about it and name the officer involved that will be slander.

Both will carry a court case legal fees fines and possibly some jail time.
Reply:Well I doubt it's an offence to name someone, regardless whether it was a police officer, after all ,they are not above the law, they're only here to enforce it.

I don't understand why you'd like to name the officer on here anyways. It doesn't make sense, it wouldn't get you anywhere in doing so. It's probably better you remain respectful and leave the officer nameless if you wish to discuss it.
Reply:Legal or not it would be very unwise. Would you like the policeman to publish details of your conduct? Or would you be outraged and sue?

Trivial does not matter unless you are sure of your facts and can prove them it would be slander and could carry a hefty fine. I have counseled with various people over a lot of years and it is very clear that in many cases one persons truth is another persons outright lie.

When emotions are involved fact and opinion quickly part company.

Reply:It's like anything else pertaining to your right to free speech, first amendment to the constitution of the United States. You have a right to your "opinion" and if I were you I would use that magic word in your memo. Just remember, there is a law suite filed every second of every minute in the United States. Competency is in the "eyes of the beholder' !
Reply:Be careful. He/She would be a member of the Police Federation which is their Union so would have access to legal help to sue for libel and damages. Its best to wait for the outcome then you can have your say about events but not personalities.
Reply:Why bother naming the officer? What will it achieve on this group. So we know that there is an officer in GMP called Pc C******. And!

Was it fair to name that officer? No not really because that officer is not here to defend themselves.......

Reply:They could sue you for libel, but they would have to prove that what you said is untrue. Some of these people need to be named and shamed if they are not doing their jobs. They are public servants after all. Millions of thumbs down for that lol.
Reply:I hope everything you said is factual and can be proven. Defamation ( liable) laws;

Reply:don't do it, it's not worth it. If you have a grievance against an officer then follow the protocol and make a complaint
Reply:Freedom of Speech.

You go right ahead and tell ur story however I def wouldnt name the officer involved, that would still be slander, or deformation of character.
Reply:Sounds like an irresponsible and childish act ! How old are you? Why would this be needed to do that, handle your business in life stop being a drama king/queen!
Reply:Breach of Privacy. Possibly Libellous.
Reply:You posted this question at least twice before, what are you trying to achieve. I think you should be locked up ya nutter
Reply:its not an offence. freedom of information act etc.
Reply:It is never an offense to publish the truth
Reply:Libellous and you would be very stupid to do so.

Reply:don't do this, they could do you for perverting the course of justice
