The naming of a Teddy Bear has become an international incident?

Oh my.

Are you concerned about your future?

The naming of a Teddy Bear has become an international incident?
Yes
Reply:One wonders do countries not see how stupid they look when things like this come happen. really the Sudanese are making Bush look like mastermind. its all a ploy i think to take away world attention from the real crimes that are going on in Darfur. don't let them lets keep mentioning that. Save Darfur, and lets just keep on that and not get distracted by the acts of a despot
Reply:No more than I was Pre-Teddy

The world is going to Hades in a handbasket anyway - don't sweat the little stuff (it's all little stuff)
Reply:I read that in the paper this morning, isnt that obscene? That woman was arrested for naming a teddy bear Muhammad, yet they beleive that their religion is being mocked.

What would happen in the US if a bear was named Jesus?
Reply:Yeah , lets invade!
Reply:I would be if I was the poor teacher that is facing 40 lashes!
Reply:No, I'm not concerned about my future. Yes, it may seem strange that this 'naming of the Teddy' has become an Intenational New Story, but what if this woman had named the bear and been arrested and killed or thrown into prison and people NEVER found out about it? I'm sorry, but in this case, I think the story is a good one, and people are talking about it for good reasons. Yes, we could live in a time when something we do gets put on the news, but if we are good people then we are also not going to get cast as the 'bad guys' ... unless society goes bad and the news goes bad ... and while that is a 'possible danger' we aren't there yet, and hopefully stories like this can help keep us from going in that direction.
Reply:It doesn't have to do with the future, it has to do with religious sensitivity. It evokes the incident involving a comic depicting Mohammed.
Reply:Yes, this is an odd story. I have only heard bits of it but I was thinking that it took place in the Middle East ....not sure. I will have to find out more.

It sounds like someone is making a mountain out of a mole for sure.
Reply:It's the Sudan - punishments there are brutal. It's terrifying for the teacher. I read the story and thought of General Gordon.
Reply:Yes, she has offended people. We who cannot understand how devout they are will not understand their reaction. Lets hope for a peaceful and quick answer to this incident. When living, working or simply visiting foreign lands it is important to understand their beliefs and laws. I agree that the punishment appears barbaric and extreme but who are we to judge another country and religion?
Reply:Of course . . . I do respect the people of Sudan and their beliefs; but obviously the teacher had no idea about this particular belief, nor did the students. If the students knew, they would not have named the teddy bear with this name.
