I need help with naming characters in my novel?

I'm playing with names right now for my characters. My novel takes place in the late 1800s. I want to say about 1880's to be more precise. The setting it in the territory that becomes South Dakota (Black Hills).

Give me a list of names. As many as you can. Both boys and girls. I'd also like ideas for last names as well. Thank you so much for your help!

Reply:Stacie,

Here's what I do:

Get one of your DVD's that you enjoy watching. Go directly to the credits, but not the cast. Watch for the people behind the scenes, such as the Best Boy, Photographers, Lighting Crew, Sound Crew, and all the rest. There are a lot of names to look at here. What I do is take the first name of one person and marry it up with the last name of another.

You can come up with some unique names this way, especially the kind you're currently looking for; the names from an earlier date in time like in the 1800's...

Good luck!

You can mix and match all the names. (:
Reply:Perhaps you could look up the birth/death records for that area in 1880. This might give you ideas.
