What's with all the dorky names people are using for their poor kids, shouldn't they think before naming them?

I'm surprised they haven't tried naming them sounds like Clearing a throat or snorting.

What's with all the dorky names people are using for their poor kids, shouldn't they think before naming them?
Well i would not want to insult anyone by giving a honest answer or anything!

Some are just looking for attention by doing it,some really like the "names?" they have chosen, some simply cannot read or write proper english sadly!

I prefer normal, real names, gender appropriate and normal, correct spellings. Why make life harder just to be different?Only my opinion, everyone can do as they want to but the innocent children are the ones who will suffer for their parents lack of good taste or education, good luck!
Reply:Much of this phenomenon can be traced to the following:

1) a desire to exhibit one's creative talents with unique names and/or spellings (hereafter designated as kreativ and yoo-neek with a sub-heading of low-rent)

2) a desire to elevate one's children above one's perceived social standing (hereafter designated as social climbing)

3) a desire to emulate celebrities based on some random factor of being cool or cutting edge (hereafter designated as pitiful)

4) complete ignorance; choosing some spelling of a name that approximates what they hear (hereafter designated as stupidity since they won't take the time to find out the traditional spelling)

There is one common denominator to all these points: ego and conceit.

These people are not evil, just short-sighted.

These people think of their position as a namer without any consideration of the child as a namee. The child is forced to live with and adapt to whatever bizarre concoction the namer dreams up. These names might (on occasion at any rate) be cute for a child but limiting, horrendous, and difficult for the adult that this child will someday become.

Is my assessment harsh? Definitely.

I believe the majority of these people are still somewhat children themselves and children don't have the necessary experience to make sound, rational decisions.
Reply:I think everyone should name their kids whatever they want and the more unique the better. Who wants their child to be the 3rd Emily or Madison in their class??? Close mindedness shouldnt be tolerated when it comes to names.

I want to name my baby girl Halo (no not after whatever video game people keep talking about) and got ripped to shreds for it.
Reply:People do name their kids terrible names sometimes. Like my mom knew someone whose name was "Female" but pronounced like tamale with an f. Celebrities also have a horrible habit of naming their kids dumb stuff as well, like "Pilot Inpektor", "Apple" "Kyd".
Reply:It's crazy alright. They are looking for something different but it should not be too different. Some of the people who post on here with some way out wacky names do it just to be crazy. They are not really gonna name the kids thise names.
Reply:i believe that they should because there is always at school the boy thats going to laugh at you for having that bad name i have 2 kids and i named them after a meaning my second 1 i name her after me and my husband
Reply:I agree. Let's just hope that the wave of naming girls Nevaeh is over. Next, what I want to hear Maury say is, "Deleterious, you ARE the father!"
Reply:People can name their kids what they want, but other people are allowed to have opinions. I like unique names, and no I don't think someone would ever name their kid Hockaloogey.
Reply:Because people are jerks and think it's so cool to give them unique names, even if they suck. They don't care baby is stuck with the name forever. Ludicrous.
Reply:I understand what you are sayin, but some parents like me want uniqe name like my daughter Quin. I think Wax is cruel but some are awsome.
Reply:They want to sound unique. Really, I think the classic and simple names are the way to go when naming a child.
Reply:People like different things.

What may be dorky to you may not be dorky to me or vice versa.
Reply:Well, They obviously like those name

*They = Parents

If they don't like it they should change their name.

Reply:Are you referring to me asking about the name Journey?
Reply:Whats the question?
